Foods That You Should Not Feed Your Cat or Dog

There are several foods that you should not feed you cat under any circumstances. Most people choose to feed their cat's cat food that they buy from pet stores or even from their Dallas veterinarian clinic. These people know that a consistent diet is best for cats although cats are more interested in the owner's home made food. Although your cat may be very interested in eating some f the foods listed below and may even beg for them, you should not feed your cat these foods. These foods are not good for cats and could cause them health problems.

Chocolate

Cats and dogs do not have the enzymes that humans do that are designed to break down chocolate. Enzymes are chemicals in our bodies that break down food for us. We have different enzymes for breaking down different types of foods. Some people lack the enzymes to break down milk and they are called lactose intolerant. There are also certain enzymes that are designed to break down fiber, and humans do not have those; that's why fiber assists our bowel movements. Likewise, since cats do not have the enzymes to break down chocolate, chocolate may help their bowel movements as well, although their bowels are really in no need of assistance.

What Happens if My Cat or Dog Eats Too Much Chocolate?

If cats eat too much chocolate they may be caused much more serious health problems than an expedient digestive process. Cats do not know that they don't have the enzymes to break down chocolate and they may eat it if they find it left out. If you leave a half-eaten Snickers bar on the counter, you may return to it at a later time to discover that it has been eaten by your cat. For this reason it is best to keep chocolate put away and out of the reach of your cat. If your cat does ingest chocolate, contact your Dallas Vet right away. By telling them how much chocolate the cat ate, they will be able to tell you how much danger your cat is in and what you should about it.
