Foods That You Should Not Feed Your Cat or Dog [Continued]

Grapes and Raisins

Grapes and raisins are very similar in nature and they both cause similar negative results in cats and dogs. These two foods, which are actually very healthy for people, can cause serious problems for cats and dogs. While the effects of grapes and raisin consumption in dogs and cats are not immediately noticeable, they have been linked to kidney failure.

Onion, Garlic, Leek, and Chive

These foods, while healthy for humans, are not healthy choices for your cat. They contain a chemical known as N-propyl disulphide, which is not properly digested by cats. This chemical can destroy red blood cells in cats, which creates a type of anemia known as Heinz body anemia. Of onion, garlic, leek, and chives, onion contain the most abundant amount of this chemical and should never be fed to your cat.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes and even raw tomatoes contain a chemical called glycoalkaloid solanine, which is very poisonous to animals. You may find this strange since humans eat tomatoes all the time and they are considered very healthy food. However, they should not be fed to animals because can cause them digestive problems.
