Foods That You Should Not Feed Your Cat or Dog [Continued]

Foods that Contain the Chemical Xylitol

Foods that contain the chemical xylitol should never be fed to cats because it is toxic to them. In fact, you should also never feed food containing xylitol to your dog either. This chemical will cause major health problems for dogs and cats. The ASPCA (Animal Poison Control Center has stated that xylitol is poisonous to cats and dogs.

This chemical can be found in artificial sweeteners such as Sweet'n'Low. Xylitol is naturally found in foods such as:
  • Fiber
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • A wide range of deserts
  • Many snacks
  • Numerous candies, gums, etc.
The chemical xylitol can cause a major drop in blood pressure in dogs and cats which often leads to seizures, vomiting, and even weakness. If your cat or dog consumes anything with xylitol or exhibits any of these symptoms and you believe they may have consumed xylitol, contact your Dallas veterinarian clinic immediately. By telling them the animal's symptoms and the severity of them, as well as how much of the chemical was consumed (if this is known), the Dallas veterinarian clinic will be able to tell you how much danger your cat or dog is in and what you should do to preserve their health.
